An Eco-friendly Alternative to Bubble wrap

Geami Greenwrap Eco-friendly Alternative

When it comes to caring for the environment making just one small change can have a positive effect on our world!

David Goodrich and Michael Hurwitz’s are great believers in this. What they didn’t realise was that their one small change would actually become a business venture for them. They were looking for an eco-friendly alternative to bubble wrap.

Their business was to safely transport glass containers of blood. But, they didn’t want to use plastic. There had to be an eco-friendly alternative.

Alternative to Bubble Wrap

Together, they came up with the idea of using cells to dissipate shock. The honeycomb structure intrigued David. It effectively dissipates and transfers shock across all cells. With this in mind they sat down with a kraft knife and sheets of Kraft paper. Their aim was to cut slit patterns into the paper until they came up with a pattern which would consistently expand into a honeycomb structure.

Armed with a pattern, they applied for a patent on ‘paper with a honeycomb structure to be used as a packaging material’. They then set up a small manufacturing facility called GeoPax which slit the kraft paper with a rotary die. Geoami (Geo—Greek for ‘Earth’ and Ami—Latin for ‘Friend’) was born. In time the company grew and Geoami and its dispenser evolved. With the sale of the company came a rebrand – Geami.

Eco-Friendly Success

Disney’s uptake of this eco-friendly wrap for its theme parks formally established it as a product with legs! Geami is an eco-friendly biodegradable Kraft wrap. In the southern hemisphere we know it as Greenwrap. The patented slits create a honeycomb structure which wraps around the object and grips onto itself when folded. The cushioning angled cells direct impact and shock away from the wrapped items. The protection is fantastic. The paper is 100% recyclable, compostable and biodegradable. It is manufactured using either SFI (sustainable forestry Initiative) certified or recycled content.

Each year we produce enough bubble wrap to circumnavigate the equator ten times! Geami/Greenwrap is the eco-friendly alternative to help save our world.
